But don’t be fooled by the radio
The TV or the magazines
They’ll show you photographs of how your life should be
But they’re just someone else’s fantasies – Styx Grand Illusion, 1977
What if what we consider to be the “normal” life, is really just a facade…an illusion? A stick with an unattainable carrot?
What if playing by the rules – getting an education to get a good job, good house, good family and financial success actually cloud our ability to realize the truth of life and our purpose?
What if escaping the “real world” on vacation was just the opposite – an escape from the false bizzaro world that enslaves our waking moments and disrupts our nightly dreams?
A world where the day is managed by the distance of the sun from the horizon, not the numbers on a watch.
Where nature, friends and family are the centerpieces of the day, rather than social media, electronic devices, and the latest “reality” show.
Where meals are the excuse for conversation, laughter and remembering those no longer among us?
Where recreation is not seen as frivolous, but as re-creation, as vital to our survival as food and water?
Where time can simultaneously stand still, and rush by double-quick?
Perhaps we should have met Morpheus long ago, and made a different choice – the choice of wonder-land.
But perhaps we meet him daily. Perhaps we have consistently chosen the grand illusion, setting for less than what we were created for.
But today – today I can choose anew. As can you. Today I choose wonder-land.
“You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
